Is IELTS easier than CAE?

In general, the CAE is a more demanding exam.

If you have studied the traditional way and used textbooks we recommend it, as it has a stronger emphasis on grammar.  On the other hand, if you didn’t learn English at school but rather as a result of living or working in a certain country, it should be easier for you to pass IELTS.

Another clear difference is in the speaking part, C1 Advanced (CAE) is carried out with you and one partner with whom you answer various questions, while in IELTS is performed only with the examiner.

However, it is best to find out which of the certificates is required by the institution you are applying to (for work or study abroad) because this should really determine which exam you want to take.
